Artificial intelligence can add value to public health, but only when it begins with a clearly understood problem. The strongest question is not “Where can we add AI?” It is “Which decision needs to improve, who makes it, and what evidence do they need?”
In African health systems, responsible design also means planning for data quality, connectivity, staff capacity, privacy and accountability. A technically impressive model that cannot fit a real workflow has limited practical value.
Useful innovation is therefore multidisciplinary. It brings public-health professionals, data teams, frontline staff and communities into the design process—and measures success by better decisions, not only technical accuracy.
Useful knowledge creates value when it reaches the right people early enough to improve a decision.← Back to all insights
